A friendly reminder as you plan your Halloween costumes: Someone’s race or culture is NOT a costume. It is their identity. If you can’t think of anything to be besides someone of another background, your lack of creativity is sad. So, put down the sombrero, Native American headdress, geisha outfit, and gold chains. It blows my mind how many people don’t understand this, so that’s why I think this reminder is important. You can literally dress up as ANYTHING for Halloween. Spongebob, salt & pepper shakers, a banana, a cat. And people still choose to imitate another race. If you can’t think of a Halloween costume without mocking a culture, don’t dress up.
